Crewe Alexandra v Gillingham – Preview

Gillingham will be looking to get back to winning ways this weekend, when they travel to Crewe having suffered their first home league defeat since Boxing Day on Tuesday evening.

Whilst the Gills ultimately fell to defeat against Grimsby Town, Mark Bonner did have some positives that he could take from the game, namely the return from injury early of midfielder Tim Dieng.

Despite the defeat the Gills remain top of the league, as Walsall lost at home to Fleetwood, and they will be looking to strengthen that position with a return to winning ways at the weekend.

This weekend represents a return to his former club for striker Elliott Nevitt, having left there to head to the MEMS Priesfield Stadium on a free transfer this summer.

In terms of injuries, Remeao Hutton missed the Grimsby game with a tight hamstring but is expected to be included in the squad for the weekend.

Bradley Dack is also likely to be involved having been rested on Tuesday, as the Gills management team look to manage his game time as he returns back to full fitness.

With the return of Tim Dieng to the squad, Mark Bonner has all his players training on the grass, with Conor Masterson, Aaron Rowe, and Josh Andrews hoping to be back involved with the match day squad very soon.

Crewe currently sit 12th in the League Two table and are just six points behind the Gills. They had Tuesday night off as their fixture away against AFC Wimbledon was postponed due to the ongoing pitch issues that Wimbledon are having following the recent flooding.

They therefore go into the fixture at the Mornflake Stadium on the back of a 2-1 defeat away at Newport County last weekend.
