Cray Wanderers play their first home game of the new year on Saturday afternoon when they take on Wingate & Finchley in the Isthmian League Premier Division.
Tony Russell’s side started 2020 with a thrilling 4-3 win away at Margate on Wednesday afternoon, Joe Taylor scoring twice against his old side along with goals from Tom Murphy & Ben Mundele. The win took The Wands back up to sixth in the table with 37 points from 22 games played, just one place below the play off places. Tom Phipp and Mitchel Nelson returned from injury, but captain Barney Williams & left back Tom Carlse were still missing.
Wingate & Finchley currently sit 21st in the table with 12 points from 21 league matches, on New Year’s Day they lost 2-1 at Haringey Borough, Alex Read scoring their goal in the first half. The Blues are on a run of six games without a win, although they have drawn twice in that time and the four defeats have all been by one goal.
When the sides met at The Maurice Rebak Stadium in November, Cray won 1-0 thanks to an early Joel Rollinson goal and this game could well be as equally tight with The Wands looking to make it into the top five and Wingate & Finchley hoping to make their way out of the relegation spots.
Entrance for the game is £10 and £5 for concessions, which is great value in itself, but season ticket holders for Premier League, Football League & National League clubs can gain entry for £5 on production of the season ticket at the turnstile.
