Cray Wanderers vs Merstham – Preview

Cray Wanderers are back in Isthmian League Premier Division action on Wednesday night when they take on Merstham at Hayes Lane.

The Wands were knocked out of the FA Cup last Saturday going down 3-2 way at Canvey Island, despite battling back from 3-0 down at the break, they just couldn’t find the equaliser in the Fourth Qualifying Round tie on the Essex coast.

Tony Russell’s side currently sit in seventh in the table with twelve points from six games and will be looking to continue the form in the league that saw them win 3-1 away at Haringey Borough in their previous outing.

The heavy early season schedule has certainly taken it’s toll on The Wands as far as injuries go, they have already played ten matches in league and cup in just over a month, winning an impressive seven of them. They already have three games in hand on some teams above them in the table.

Merstham make the trip over from Surrey sitting bottom of the table with four points from seven games, last weekend they lost 4-1 at home to Potters Bar Town, their last win coming on 29th September when they defeated  Corinthian Casuals 3-0 at home.

When the teams met at the same venue last season Cray ran out 3-1 winners completing the double over The Moatsiders with two goals from Joe Taylor and one from Bradley Pritchard.

Taylor has continued his goal scoring form with The Wands this campaign nothing nine already, while Merstham’s top marksman is Calvin Ekpiteta on three.

This looks set to be a hard fought encounter under the lights at Hayes Lane, with both sides looking to get back to winning ways.

Tickets are £10 and £5 for concessions and can be purchased in advance from the Cray Wanderers website or pay on the gate with numbers limited to a maximum of 600 spectators.
