Cray Wanderers vs Horsham – Preview

After Tuesday night’s emphatic FA Cup Replay win, Cray Wanderers return to Isthmian League Premier Division action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Horsham at Flamingo Park.

After drawing 1-1 away at Larkfield & New Hythe in the FA Cup last weekend, The Wands won the replay 8-0 at home on Tuesday,  Frankie Raymond, Nyren Clunis, Tom Bonner 2, Kenny Coker 2 and Anthony Cook along with an own goal doing the damage against their SCEFL Premier Division opponents.

In the league Neil Smith’s side have just 3 points from their opening 5 league games, leaving them in nineteenth, but they will be hoping the midweek win lifts the confidence and acts as a platform to build on. The latest recruit to the squad Imran Kayani featured in both cup ties.

Horsham are currently in seventh place with 9 points from 5 league games, The Hornets beat Virginia Water 4-0 in the FA Cup last Saturday with Daniel Ajakaiye, Reece Myles-Meekums and Chris Dickson on target along with an own goal. Dominic di Paola’s side contains three ex-Wanderers in keeper Lewis Carey, midfielder Tom Beere and experienced striker Chris Dickson.

When the sides met in the league last season, Horsham completed the double with a 3-1 win at Hayes Lane in August and a 2-0 home win in April on their way to reaching the play off semi finals.

The game looks set to be a close entertaining fixture, with The Wands really needing to start picking up league points as they head into the September fixtures and Horsham looking to keep up their challenge for the play off positions.

Entrance for the game is £12 for adults and £6 for concessions. There is an excellent printed programme for £3. Kick off is at 3pm.
