Cray Wanderers are back in Isthmian League Premier Division action on Sunday afternoon when they entertain Concord Rangers at Hayes Lane.
The Wands go into the game on a good run of form, unbeaten in four games and having moved ten points clear of the bottom four with a 2-2 draw at Folkestone Invicta on Tuesday night thanks to two late goals from Ellis Brown & Anthony Cook, the result leaving Neil Smith’s side in seventeenth place on 32 points from 27 games.
The feel good factor at the club boosted by the first ever game being played on the new pitch at Flamingo Park last Sunday, when the Women’s team defeated Oakwood 2-0. As work continues on the new stadium it’s hoped the men’s first team will be able to move in next season after playing at Bromley FC’s Hayes Lane since 1998.
Concord Rangers make their way over from the Essex coast sitting in twentieth place with 17 points from 22 matches, on Tuesday night they lost 2-0 to Redbridge in the Essex Senior Cup, having been edged out 4-3 by Potters Bar Town last weekend in the league. Prior to that Rob Small’s side were on an unbeaten run of four games going back to the start of the year. Rangers are in their first campaign back at this level following relegation from National League South last season and are currently five points off Cheshunt in eighteenth, but they do have a large number of games in hand on the teams around them.
When the teams met at Thames Road back in October, Cray ran out 3-0 winners with goals from George Porter, Cameron Black and Anthony Cook. With The Wands keen to increase the gap between them and the bottom four and Concord hoping to move their way towards safety this looks set to be a tight and hard fought encounter.
Entrance for the game is £12 for adults and £6 for concessions with an excellent printed programme at £2. Kick off is 3pm.
