After Sunday’s FA Trophy exit Cray Wanderers are back in Ryman League Division One South action on Saturday when they entertain Chipstead at Hayes Lane as their focus returns to challenging for promotion.
The Wands were edged out of the trophy 2-1 last Sunday by Ryman Premier League side Worthing, with manager Tony Russell ruing missed chances from his usually strong forward line, while also praising his defence and keeper Nick Blue.
The Black & Ambers sit just outside the play off spots in seventh, but despite not having won in the league since 19th October, are still very much in the mix with 28 points from 16 games. Russell’s options have been boosted by the return of Danny Haynes and Jay Siva from suspension along with new signings Sherwin Stanley and Dane Luchford who made their debuts last midweek in the 2-2 league draw with Whyteleafe.
The Chips travel over from Surrey in nineteenth place with 18points from 19 games and will be looking to extend the gap between themselves and the bottom four. They suffered a 7-0 reverse at home to the division’s form side Tooting & Mitcham Utd in the League last Saturday and will be looking to pick up some form in what has been an inconsistent season results wise so far.
Winger Brandon Scott has been on trial at League One Fleetwood Town this week, a reflection of how well a few of The Wands players are regarded at the moment, with Stoke City and Crystal Palace also rumoured to be interested. Whatever the player’s future holds Cray will be hoping he and his teammate can make an impact on the promotion race this Saturday.
The game at Hayes Lane, kicks off at 3pm, admission £10 for adults and £4 for concessions with the excellent programme £2.
