Cray Wanderers return to action at Hayes Lane on Wednesday night when they entertain in-form Whyteleafe in the Bostik League Division One South in a game they really need to win.
The Wands have had a difficult run of form going back to the defeat by Lewes at the end of January, not helped by suspensions and injuries, they have won once, drawn once and lost four since then.
Slipping down from top to fifth in the table, Tony Russell’s side have 69 points from 37 matches played.
The Wands have only lost by 2-1 in all of these games, so have only just been missing out. On Saturday they travelled down to the Kent Coast to play Hythe Town and lost 2-1, with Charlie MacDonald scoring the Cray goal.
In contrast Whyteleafe make the short trip over from Surrey sitting in eighth with 62 points from 37 games. The Leafe beat Hastings Utd on Saturday 1-0 with a Vance Bola goal and have won eight of their last nine games, hitting form at the crucial time of the campaign under new manager Mark Coote.
When the two sides met at Church Road in December The Wands ran out 2-0 winners with goals from Michael Freiter and top scorer Michael Power and The Wands will be keen to register a similar result on Wednesday as they look reverse the poor run and maintain their place in the play off spots with nine game left in the regular season.
