It’s a match up between two sides looking for points at either ends of the table on Saturday as sixth place Cray Wanderers take on twenty first place Waltham Abbey in the Ryman League Division One North at Hayes Lane, but going into the game it is the lower placed team who are in better form.
Abbey travel down from Essex with three wins from their last four league games and having beaten The Wands at Cappershots 2-1 in January, with striker Christian Asombalonga in a rich vein of form.
Cray drew 1-1 at Bury Town last time out, but have struggled since Christmas dropping from league leaders to one place below the play off spots.
Home form has been a real problem for Tony Russell’s side of late and they will be looking to make more of the possession of the ball they have for large amounts of matches at Hayes Lane. With Leigh Bremner on his final game of a three match ban, striker Michael Malcolm joined The Wands last week making his debut at Bury to add extra threat up front.
Unfortunately suspensions have caused Cray real problems, influential midfielder Aryan Tajbakhsh the latest player to be sent off last weekend, although his suspension won’t begin until after the Waltham Abbey game.
The Wands sit on 65 points from 35 games and can still make a play of spot their own if they can rediscover their early season form, while Abbey have 29 points from 35 games and will need to add to that to keep safe from the bottom four. With both clubs needing a win it should be another entertaining game at The Lane.
