Table topping Cray Wanderers are back in Bostik League Division One South East action on Saturday afternoon when they entertain VCD Athletic at Hayes Lane in a local derby.
The Wands are top of the league at the moment with 51 points from 20 games, ten points clear of Hastings Utd in second, having lost only one league game so far this season. Last Saturday they won 2-0 at East Grinstead Town with goals from Joe Taylor and Freddie Parker, keeping the run going despite still missing the injured trio of Michael Power, Junior Dadson and Aaron Rhule.
The Vickers make the short trip over from Crayford sitting in eighth place with 31 points from 20 matches, they won 2-1 away at Three Bridges last weekend, their third win in the last five games.
To give this derby match even more interest The Wands manager Tony Russell was previously in charge at VCD and there will be familiar faces on both teams & benches including ex-Cray defender Junior Baker and striker Charlie MacDonald lining up for The Vickers. The former Charlton & Brentford forward has been in typically prolific form this campaign scoring 18 goals thus far, proving to be a masterstroke of a signing from manager Keith McMahon.
When the sides met at Oakwood in September Cray ran out 2-1 winners with goals from Parker & Bradley Pritchard having gone one down to a MacDonald penalty early on. This game promises to be a tight and entertaining match up again, with The Black and Ambers looking to maintain their lead at the top and VCD hoping to edge nearer the play off spots.
Season Ticket holders of Premier League, Football league and National League clubs can watch the game for £5 on production of their ticket at the gate. Normal entrance prices for the game are £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.
