Cray Wanderers v Margate preview
Cray Wanderers v Margate preview

Cray Wanderers are back in Isthmian League Premier Division action on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon when they entertain Margate in a Kent Derby at Hayes Lane.

Both sides currently have five points from their opening four matches and sit one place apart in twelfth and thirteenth, with Gate having a better goal difference.

The teams both played their previously league games on Friday night with Cray picking up a respectable 1-1 draw at Bishop’s Stortford, courtesy of late Mitch Chapman equaliser and Margate also drawing 1-1 at home to Horsham, former Cray striker Fjord Rogers putting them in front on the hour before Marget conceded only two minutes later.

Margate have a few ex-Wanderers in their squad as well as Rogers, including Camron Brodie and Freddie Barton and are managed by former player Andy Drury.

When the sides met last season Margate won both games 2-1 at Hartsdown Park in August and 3-2 at Hayes Lane in December.

Cray manager Neil Smith brought in defender Roman Charles-Cook on loan from League Two Sutton Utd and he made an impressive debut at Stortford.

The Wands are now unbeaten in three matches as they look to push further up the table going into September. This looks set to be a close fought, entertaining encounter between two teams familiar to each other and keen to build on a decent start to their campaigns.

Entrance for the game is £12 for adults, £6 for concessions and there is an excellent printed programme available for £2.
