Cray Wanderers v Folkestone Invicta preview

Cray Wanderers return to Isthmian League Premier Division action on Wednesday night when they take on Folkestone Invicta in a Kent derby under the floodlights at Hayes Lane.

The Wands go into the game on the back of a 2-1 loss at Kingstonian last Saturday, Anthony Cook with the Cray goal from the penalty spot which drew them level only to concede a second goal with eighteen minutes to go.

The defeat left Danny Kedwell’s side in twentieth place with ten points from thirteen games, third from bottom. Cook is The Wands top scorer so far this season with seven goals, followed by Adam Coombes on five.

Folkestone make the trip across Kent sitting in fifth place with twenty nine points from fifteen league matches played, in the last play off spot.

On Saturday Invicta lost 3-0 away to Lewes, but Neil Cugley’s side have been in good form winning six, drawing one and losing three of their last ten matches in all competitions, with strikers David Smith and Adam Yusuff both already in double figures for the campaign.

Kedwell’s squad is looking a little more settled now and he will be hoping for a similar performance to the last home game when The Wands saw off Bedfont Sports 2-1 in the FA Trophy ten days ago.

The teams have been regular opponents since their Kent League day in the 1990’s and this will be another important game for both with Cray needing points to move away from the relegation zone and Folkstone looking to keep in touch with the play of chasers.

Entrance for the game is £10 for adults and £5 for concessions, with an excellent printed programme for £2.
