After last week’s FA Cup exit Cray Wanderers return to Isthmian League Premier Division action on Saturday afternoon when they entertain Enfield Town at Hayes Lane.
The Wands lost their third qualifying round tie 1-0 at Haringey Borough last weekend, conceding a second half penalty and having a Joe Taylor goal disallowed, the defeat was only their second loss this season and they will be looking to bounce back quickly against Enfield.
Town currently sit fourth in the table with 20 points from 9 games played, they were also knocked out of the FA Cup last Saturday, losing 1-0 at Chichester City. The defeat was only Enfield’s second loss of the season and ended an eight game unbeaten run.
The Wands are ninth in the table with 14 points from 9 matches, making a very respectable start to life back at this level following promotion last April. Manager Tony Russell is still missing several players due to injury, but his side have performed consistently well this campaign, losing just one league game.
The last time the sides met at Hayes Lane was at the end of the 2014/15 season, with Enfield winning 2-1 to secure Premier Division status, while Cray were already relegated. This time round promises to be closer as two form teams looking to keep in touch with the top six meet on Non League Day, with The Es large away support hopefully boosting the gate.
Entry is £10 for adults and £5 for concessions, season ticket holders for Premier, Football & National League clubs can gain admittance for only £5 on production of their season ticket at the turnstile.
As part of Non League Day The Wands youth teams will be in attendance and supporters can pay £5 to try the charity crossbar challenge and anyone successfully hitting the bar will win a Cray Wands season ticket. All proceeds going to Prostate Cancer.
