Following last Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Chipstead, Cray Wanderers are back in Ryman League Division One South action on Wednesday night at Hayes Lane when they entertain another grand old name of non league Football in fellow play off challengers Corinthian Casuals.
The Wands twice took the league at Chipstead, thanks to goals from Danny Haynes and Jay Leader, but on both occasions they were pegged back and had to settle for a point, which at least put an end to a run of defeats that had dented Tony Russell’s sides play off chances.
Casuals make the journey over from Surrey on the back of two defeats, the most recent a 2-0 loss at Horsham on Saturday, which left them in eighth on 63 points from 35 games, six points and one place ahead of Cray.
Last Year’s Player of the Season Grant Basey retired last week following a difficult time with injury this term and experienced midfielder Sol Taiwo was released, but The Wands were able to bring in defender Nathan Fox who returns from his spell at Brentford.
When the sides met in Tolworth in January the game ended 1-1, which probably serves as a good indicator of how closely the sides are match and this should be another entertaining game for the fans.
