It’s the battle of ‘The Ambers’ at Hayes Lane on Saturday afternoon as top of the table Cray Wanderers take on sixth placed Cheshunt in The Ryman League Division One North looking to maintain their four point lead on the chasing pack.
The Wands battled to a 2-1 win at Witham Town in heavy conditions last week, with Ben Hunt scoring on his return to the club, who he played for briefly last season.
With Onome Sodje back at Billericay after a successful loan spell and Andre McCollin still injured, Tony Russell has brought in Hunt to bolster the forward line with an immediate impact.
The teams below Cray all have games in hand, but The Wands have the points and can solely concentrate on the league, as the cliché goes, having been knocked out of all the cup competitions.
Cheshunt travel down from Hertfordshire on the back of two narrow loses 3-2 at Thurrock and 2-1 at home to Hornchurch and will be hoping for better luck to keep them in touch with the play off positions.
With The Wands having 45 points from 21 games and Cheshunt 35 from 19, it should be a close fought encounter between two teams looking to be in the promotion mix come April.
