After wins at home to VCD Athletic and away to Guernsey last week Cray Wanderers have another big week coming up in the Bostik League Division One South starting with the visit of Ashford United for a Kent derby at Hayes Lane on Wednesday night.
The Wands go into the game sitting in second place and unbeaten in 23 games with 62 points from 29 played, having kicked off at 2pm they were top for a brief spell on Saturday before Lewes scored a late winner at Chipstead.
Michael Power got the vital goal for The Wands in the 1-0 win at Guernsey at the start of the second half having sat out the previous game against VCD with new signing Charlie MacDonald starting as the lone striker and scoring twice in a 4-2 victory.
The two experienced forwards could possibly be set to work in rotation, which would be an intimidating prospect for the rest of the league with The Wands already top scorers.
Having battled their way back through the SCEFL, The Nuts & Bolts are in their first season back at this level after reforming in 2011 and currently sit 22nd in the table, but are well clear of the relegation place with 23 points from 29 matches, last weekend Ashford lost 4-0 at Walton Casuals.
The Kingsnorth based side added former Greenwich Borough boss Gary Alexander to their coaching staff last week as assistant to manager Jason Whitmore and will be looking to upset the form in this one.
The two sides have yet to meet so far this campaign as this fixture was rearranged due to cup commitments, but they will meet again next month.
Cray manager Tony Russell will be hoping the travel to the Channel Islands won’t have taken too much out of his squad and will no doubt have them focused on Ashford and keeping their unbeaten run going.
