Cray Wanderers 1-3 Horsham

It was a disappointing night for Cray Wanderers as they crashed at home to Horsham.

Both teams came into the game on the back of defeats, and individual errors by Neil Smith’s side were punished by the visitors.

Goalmouth action was at a premium in the early stages as both teams tried to work each other out and the first chance didn’t come until twenty minutes had gone when Cray’s centre back Cameron Black rose to meet a corner but headed over.

In the twenty-sixth minute there was a similar opportunity at the other end and the visitors made it count. Tom Richards delivered a corner and Jack Strange rose to head home.

Anthony Cook, who had come on as an early substitute for the injured George Porter, hit a first time effort for Cray that was well claimed by Lewis Carey but Horsham continued to threaten and Shaun Rowley made a brilliant double save to keep the difference down to one.

That good work was undone four minutes before half time when Cray gave the ball away down their left hand side and Bobby Price took full advantage. He burst forward and finished clinically.

Jack Mazzone had a header deflected wide and Doug Tuck shot over as the visitors finished the half strongly.

However, the complexion of the game changed three minutes shy of the hour mark. A free kick from the right was not cleared and Cook fired home from the edge of the penalty area.

Looking for an immediate response, Mazzone had a shot blocked and then sent the follow up over.

Jack Brivio then sent Mazzone away but he was thwarted by a great save by Rowley.

Black headed over from a Cray corner before Kadell Daniel tried his luck from long distance for Horsham, but missed the target,

Cook came closer at the other end with a twenty-five yarder that went narrowly wide before Tuck created an opening for James Hammond for the visitors, but he couldn’t keep his shot down.

As the clock ran down, Nyren Clunis burst through but shot straight at Carey and Horsham made sure of the points in the final minute of stoppage time. Hesitancy by a Wands’ defender on the half way line was pounced upon by Daniel Ajakaiye and he burst away to finish confidently.
