Cray Wanderers were knocked out of the London Senior Cup at the quarter final stage on Tuesday night as they lost out to Dartford who scored an injury time goal to win the game.
Neil Smith’s side went into the tie missing Jack Holland, David Ijaha, Ellis Brown and George Porter from the matchday squad, but they did get off to the perfect start when Alfie Evans crossed for Nyren Cunis to convert after only 2 minutes.
From there though it was Dartford who had the better of things, Jordan Greenidge was denied by an excellent Evans last ditch tackle, while Taylor Maloney put a free kick just wide soon after.
Fumnaya Shomotun hit the side netting after linking up with Greendidge and former Wanderer Harrison Sodje fired over from long range.
With The Darts still making all the play, Greenidge has a shot saved by Shaun Rowley at his near post. With the rain cascading down Rowley made a save from George Whitfield, before the visitors’ pressure finally paid off when Greenidge held off the whole defence in the box before turning and blasting the ball past Rowley into the net from ten yards out to make it 1-1.
Shomotun had a powerful shot saved as Dartford looked to make their pressure count again, but the final effort of the half came for Cray when Anthony Cook played in Clunis but his shot was saved by Rhys Byrne.
The second half sstarted with Dartford on top again, Shomotun shooting wide, but Cray did start to get back into things with Clunis having a shot deflected wide.
Jayden Boulton and Maloney went close for The Darts, while George Brooke had an effort saved for The Wands.
After a number of substitutions play evened out for a spell, but Dartford created the better chances, Finley Scillence hitting the under side of the bar from the left of the box. Brooke had a shot saved by Byrne, while at the other end Shomotun crossed for Greenidge who headed into the side netting at the near post.
The game looked set to be going to penalties, but in the first minute of injury time a corner lead to a scramble in the six yard box and Greenidge headed the ball just over the line, despie the best efforts of a defender to keep it out, with the Linesman confirming to the referee it had just crossed.
Luke Allen almost made it three deep into the six minutes of added time, but Tom Beere did enough to put him off at the far post.
Dartford now travel to Hendon next week for the semi final, while Cray prepare for their final ever home game at Hayes Lane on Saturday against Bognor Regis Town.
