Cray Wanderers 0-0 Whitehawk

Cray Wanderers recorded their second 0-0 in a row as they battled out a hard fought draw with Whitehawk in the Isthmian League Premier Division at Flamingo Park on Tuesday night.

Both sides started the game in the bottom four with Whtehawk having lost their manager the previous day.

The Wands made a positive start to the game doing lots of the pressing, but it was Whitehawk who had the clear efforts on goal with Greg Luer & George Taggart having long range shots saved by Shaun Rowley.

As Cray continued to have more of the ball they had three seperate appeals for penalties turned down, but The Hawks always looked a threat on the break, with Emmanuel Mensah tasting Rowley and Tyrese Sutherland firing wide. After a quiet spell in the game, Cray finished the half on top, but still couldn’t create a clear cut chance.

The second half saw David Smith have an early shot saved at the near post by Hawks keeper Will Huffer, while at the other end Taggart headed a chance over. After an open spell Cray pressed again, Lateef Adaja turned the ball wide at the near post from a Steffan Illic cross, Frankie Raymond found Tom Bonner who headed over and Illic sent a free kick just over the bar.

After several substitutions at the midway point of the half, Whitehawk went close when Sutherland had an effort on the break saved by Rowley. Too often play was broken up by free kicks, offside and some wayward passing, before The Wands had a final rally going into the last ten minutes.

Nyren Clunis played in Raymond whose shot was saved by Huffer, Bonner headed wide from a Raymond dead ball and an Ike Orji cross found Kenny Coker who shot over from ten yards, with the best chance of the game.

Right at the end of the five added minutes The Hawks nearly won the match when Charlie Lambert curled a shot narrwoly wide after a quick break up field.

Neil Smith’s side remain bottom of the Premier Division ahead of their trip to Cheshunt on Saturday as they look for that illusive second league win to help them move up the table.
