It’s a return to knockout football for Kevin Watson’s Cray Valley side on Wednesday, as The Millers entertain The Hillians in the First Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup.
While Valley were knocking VCD Athletic for six in the Preliminary Round, Burgess Hill progressed courtesy of a bye as opponents Hollands And Blair declined a visit to Sussex due to a Covid-19 situation.
This meant that South East Division rivals Hill played their opening competitive match of the season on Saturday – suffering a late 3-2 defeat at Hythe Town – while The Millers picked up a point in a goaless draw at Hastings United.
While Cray Valley will be looking to equal a “Club best” 2nd Qualifying Round performance, The Hillians have reached the 4th Qualifying Round 3 times in the last 6 years, so will be looking to maintain a healthy Cup pedigree.
Burgess Hill manager Jay Lovett has made several additions to a defence that conceded 60 goals in 27 league games in 2019/20, securing the services of former Barnet youngster Martyn Box, ex-Whitehawk man Max Blencowe, and former Haywards Heath defender Nathan Copper.
In midfield, ex-AFC Wimbledon Academy man Reece Williams-Bowers has also joined the Club.
Kick-off at The Artic Stadium is at 7.45pm
