League newcomers Lancing visit The Artic Stadium on Saturday in the midst of a battle for survival in their first season at Step 4, after their last nine games have yielded just three draws.

Recipients of advancement under the FA “Non-League Pyramid restructure” in the summer, The Lancers were “promoted” from the Southern Combination Premier Division having won six of their eleven league matches in the curtailed 2020/21 season. 

After starting the season under the joint player/managership of Kane Louis and James Rhodes, a poor start to the season saw Alex Walsh join Louis in late  September – Rhodes returning to a playing role.

The change appeared to have an immediate impact – Lancing gaining their only away win of the season at Whitehawk before beating Sevenoaks Town at Culver Road – but despite tightening up at the back, a profligate strikeforce has found the target just 13 times in 17 league matches – Matt Daniel leading the individual scoring charts with five.

With only one win in the last four league games, Valley manager Kevin Watson will hope the table toppers have a larger squad to select from, after a depleted line-up performed heroically to maintain an unbeaten league run of 12 matches at Whitehawk last week.
