The Millers return to action on Saturday with a mouth watering fixture at The Artic Stadium.
The London Senior Cup is the oldest County Cup competition in the country, having been played for since 1882 – ironically the same year the FA created Corinthian FC to provide a foundation for England teams to face Scotland in the early International Association Football matches.
Following a liaison with The Casuals in 1939, Corinthian-Casuals are currently the highest ranked “amateur” football team in England – competing in the Premier Division of the Isthmian League, the highest level in the Club’s history.
Manager James Bracken followed a successful spell in charge of Sutton United Reserves by taking the mantle at King Georges’ Field in 2015, before leading the Club to promotion in 2017/18.
With goalkeeper and captain Danny Bracken having made over 420 appearances for the Club (yes, James’ younger brother!), Corinthian-Casuals have won three of their nine league fixtures this season, and were beaten in a penalty shoot-out by Dulwich Hamlet in the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.
Goals this season have been evenly spread around the team – Jerson Dos Santos currently leading the way with 4.
Kevin Watson’s Millers will be looking to put this season’s record breaking FA Cup run behind them in a competition Valley have fond recent memories of.
Having become the lowest ranked winners of the Cup in 2017 – our Step 5 side famously beating Met Police 2-1 on a memorable night at Dulwich Hamlet – , we were beaten finalists the following season.
It all looks set for an entertaining encounter to warm the cockels on a winter’s Saturday afternoon.
