Cray Valley Ladies 2-0 Tunbridge Wells Foresters

The Millers Ladies signed off pre lockdown with a two goals to nil victory at Oxford Road v Tunbridge Wells Foresters in the SECWFL Division 1 East.

The opening goal came on 23 minutes from a Lia free kick which the Foresters keeper could only parry out and Danielle De Souza reacted quickly to head home.

In the 35th minute The Millers increased their lead when the hardworking captain Annemarie Blanche headed powerfully home from Lucy Robertson corner.

The two goal lead at the break did flatter The Millers Ladies somewhat on the balance of play as The Foresters enjoyed plenty of possession during the first half and created numerous opportunities in front of goal but failed to take advantage, often being guilty of failing to hit the target.

They did on one occasion though and The Millers can thank keeper Samantha Saint who pulled off an excellent save just before the opening goal was scored, reaching high to her right to keep out the shot which looked destined for the top corner.

For all The Foresters opportunities and possession, The Millers had chances of their own. Katie Jackson volleyed over from the edge of the box after the ball broke form a corner and set up nicely for her.

The same player also forced the keeper into making a good save diving to her right to palm the ball away. Lia Morphitis blasted over from an acute angle inside the penalty area when a ball was laid back to her following the award of an indirect free kick when their keeper was adjudged to have handled the back pass. Half Time: 2-0

Second half saw The Millers continue to defend well utilising their experience and as the game wore on were more able to take advantage of greater possession themselves.

The Foresters were less of a threat after the break but Samantha Saint in goal was again called into action and produced a wonderful double save late on to ensure The Millers kept a clean sheet.

A fine victory for The Millers who have now won all of their three home league games this season and move into fourth place in the table. Alas it seems there will now be an enforced break as we enter a national lockdown on Thursday.

Millers line up: Saint, Henry, D’urso, Feagan, Morphitis, Jackson, Blanche, Chenery, Robertson, De Souza, Sales. Subs used (roll on roll off) Higgins, Galea, Willicombe.

Goalscorers: De Souza 23, Blanche 35
