Karl Robinson will have a couple of decisions to make ahead of the Checkatrade Trophy game at Crawley on Tuesday.

Clubs used to be obliged to play five regulars in their starting line-ups, though the rule has been relaxed somewhat this season.

It is likely that several clubs – including Charlton – would rather take a fine for fielding a weak side, than risk players picking up injuries and missing the game at the weekend.

With only Jay Dasilva and Josh Magennis on international duty, the Addicks’ game at Oldham on Saturday, will be played as scheduled.

Johnnie Jackson and Lee Novak are obvious candidates to start in the Crawley game, but as things stand, they are likely to be in the start‎ing XI at Boundary Park on Saturday.

In the circumstances, Robinson may opt to leave them out on Tuesday.

The manager is likely to put out a largely second string team at Crawley. Charlton could look something like this:

Phillips; Dijksteel, Konsan Sarr, Barnes; Crofts, Aribo, Charles-Cook, Ahearne-Grant; Hackett-Fairchild.

Subs:‎ Amos, Bauer, Jackson, Clarke, Lapslie, Umerah, Novak.

The referee will be Nick Kinseley from Essex .

Even with a depleted squad, the Addicks should have too much in the locker for Harry Kewell’s side.

Great team spirit is the secret behind the Addicks’ early season success according to central defender, Patrick Bauer.

The German said this after Saturday’s win at Rotherham:

“The dressing room is really good right now,” he said. “We are like a big family. everyone is really talking a lot to each other.

“We have a great team spirit and I think everyone can see that on the pitch.

“Saturday was the perfect afternoon, we kept a clean sheet against a very strong side and we were really glad to go away with the three points.

“We watched the clips of Rotherham and we knew what would happen. It was a tough fight but we left as the winners and we are very happy with that.”
