Kent batsman Zak Crawley is set to make his Ashes debut in the Boxing Day Test for England against Australia at the MCG.
After a dismal start of the series for the visitors, losing both opening games comfortably, England seem set to ring the changes from the side that lost in Adelaide.
The question though is who will Crawley replace at the top of the order with both Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed horribly out of form.
Some commentators have suggested neither are up to the standards of Test cricket, although England seem unlikely to replace both at the same time.
Whoever Crawley were to replace should he be selected, the Kent batsman will undoubtedly have a tough test on his hands against one of the best bowling attacks in the world.
However, standing at 6ft 5, Crawley is well suited to the fast, bouncy Australian pitches and could use the opportunity of playing in the upcoming games in Melbourne and Sydney to cement a place in the England side for many more years to come.
Crawley made a name for himself smashing 267 against Pakistan in 2020, but struggled for runs and form at the start of this year, being dropped in favour of Hameed.
Quiet, unassuming, but focused and determined, Crawley has all the assets to go on and have a decent England career. At just 23, Crawley still has a lot of time on his side, but will want to improve upon his career average of only 28.3 in Test cricket.
Having come through the system at Kent, making his debut for the county in 2017, Crawley has shown he has the aptitude to make it in the game.
England fans will be hoping come Boxing Day we get to see the very best of Crawley. Another double century would be the perfect Christmas present…
