Cox signs Kent contract extension

Wicketkeeper batsman Jordan Cox has signed a two-year extension to his contract, that keeps him a Kent player until at least the end of the 2023 season.

A graduate from the Kent Cricket Academy in Winter 2018, Cox grabbed headlines this Summer when he scored an unbeaten 238 against Sussex in the Bob Willis Trophy this August. His knock came from 345 deliveries and was the highest score ever posted by a Kent player to pass 100 runs in an innings for the first time, eclipsing David Nicholls’ 211 vs. Derbyshire in 1963.

The 20-year-old’s partnership of 423 runs with Jack Leaning at The Spitfire Ground, St. Lawrence also set a new record Kent first-class partnership for any wicket in the Club’s 149-year history, and scooped the ‘Moment of the Year’ award at the 2020 Spitfire Kent Cricket Awards.

The wicketkeeper-batsman also picked up the ‘Fielder of the Year’ accolade after some extraordinary work in the field across 2020, including a direct hit run out of Middlesex’s Steve Eskinazi from deep backwards point.

On extending his time at Kent for at least three more seasons, Cox said: “I’m really excited about the forward momentum of this Club and I’m delighted to extend my contract at my home county.

“I’m working hard to keep improving my game and I know that Kent is the best place for me to be right now, amongst a brilliant group of players and coaches all working in unison.

“This is just the beginning for me and I can’t wait to contribute further in a Kent shirt.”

Kent’s Director of Cricket, Paul Downton, said: “Jordan has a bright future ahead of him and we’re thrilled that he has committed to his home county until at least the end of 2023.

“He is a young player who has already shown us a glimpse of what he can do and If he continues to work hard in training and to develop his game then he can become a major contributor for Kent in the coming seasons.”
