Cowdrey looking at winter plans

Batsman Fabian Cowdrey is already making his plans for the winter after breaking into the Kent side this season.Cricket - Kent CCC v Cardiff MCCU

The 20 year old has recently put pen to paper on a new year deal at Canterbury and has had the breakthrough season that has seen him start the campaign at University in Cardiff and ended pushing for a first team place back in Kent.

His decision to give up University in pursuit of a cricketing career seems to have paid off for the stylish batsman as he’s cemented a place in the Kent YB40 side towards the end of the season, whilst knocking on the door for a spot in the County Championship side.

With so much pedigree behind him, the former Sevenoaks Vine cricketer is looking to use these final weeks of the summer to show the Kent coaching staff what he can do, whilst making plans for the winter away:

“I don’t know what plans Jimmy Adams has for the final few games of the season as he tends to keep these things under his hat, but for me personally, it’s been a good year.”

“I’ve managed to breakthrough into the side and that was my aim, so I have got to take that. It would be nice to get a run out for the first team in the Championship, but that’s not for me to decide.”

“I’m looking at going to Australia for about four months and try to find out a bit more about my game out there.”

“Hopefully, I will come back from there in a much better place and ready to challenge for a place in the side next season.”

For Cowdrey, the chance to get away this winter isn’t just about improving his game, but gaining valuable life experiences being away from home, following in the footsteps of many Kent cricketers who have made their way to Australia in recent years:

“It’s about me learning so much as a cricketer and as a person. It will be a good trip for me to learn so much and come back refreshed.”

“The guys have all said it will be a good experience and that I’ll learn so much about life out there. I think I’m going to be about 100 miles from Sam Billings, so we plan to catch up whilst out there too.”

Cowdrey top scored for Lordswood against former side Sevenoaks Vine at the weekend, smashing 120 as his new side came out victorious by 145 runs.
