Preparations are well underway for Kent Kings Speedway’s big End of Season event at Iwade on Sunday 1st September: a first-ever international match at NORA level of England vs. Australia.
The two Speedway nations have clashed in ‘Ashes Tests’ at a whole range of levels since the 1930s and there’s building excitement at this latest battle between the ‘Old Enemies’ in a 15 heats , five riders per side international racing format.
Named for the England side will be newly-crowned NORA British Champion, Ben Morley and former GB Youth Champion Rhys Naylor, joined by fellow Kings’ man Jack Kingston and a rider who’s made a big impression appearing in opposition sides this term, Jacob Clouting.
The Aussies will include Old Gun Site favourites, Dayle Wood and Patrick Hamilton plus the experienced Matt Marson and 2024 newcomer to GB Speedway, Senna Ace Summers. Senna is the son of former top division title winner Aaron Summers and rides this year for Oxford in the National Development League.
Kings’ promoter Steve Ribbons is looking forward to a big day to bring the curtain down on a successful season at the helm: “England vs. Australia is an iconic fixture throughout the history of Speedway and there’s a lot of anticipation building for this latest instalment in the battles between the two nations.
“They’ll be a second half individual event too and we will finish with the End of Season presentations to our riders and we are hoping to combine this all, to continue the Aussie theme, with a BBQ.”
The meeting will be a 2pm start time on Sunday 1st. September at Kent Kings’ home track on Raspberry Hill Lane, off Old Ferry Road, Iwade, Kent ME9 8SP.
