Could Henry still arrive?
Could Henry still arrive?

The South London Press’ website, southlondon-today, carried a fascinating interview about the club’s finances with Katrien Miere on Sunday.

The Charlton CEO explains the current situation regarding the playing budget:

“We know we are short in a couple of positions but it needs to be understood that re-signing Johann (Gudmundsson) and Jordan (Cousins) to new contracts comes with a cost.

“I’m not saying it is because of them we didn’t make any late signings, but it is not only a commitment from them, but also a commitment from us.

“If we get an injury to one of our first choice centre-backs, we want to hold back a bit of money in the loan window to loan a defender. Ideally, we would have liked two or three players more.

“The wage budget for the first team has gone up quite substantially.

“We’ve been unfortunate with the injuries we’ve had and the players not going out on loan earlier.

“It’s great for Marko’s (Dmitrovic’s) development to go to Spain, but we have had to subsidise it.

“Before the summer we wanted Piotr (Parzyszek)to be done as a permanent transfer – but he stayed until July. In an ideal world you want it to be permanent so that you are not liable for his wages. He also wanted to move – but there was no market for that.

“All these little things put you over budget,” said Miere.

The club has been careful with its money. For example, they decided not to bring in a back-up keeper to Nick Pope following Stephen Henderson’s injury.

Guy Luzon is happy with Pope, and any new keeper would only have played if Pope was injured. The club decided they would not make a move if Pope remained injury free.

Katrien also revealed that the Addicks are negotiating a new deal with Morgan Fox, despite Fox’s contract still having two years to run.

Nick Pope – already contracted until the summer of 2018 – will be the next player to be offered new terms.

Another drain on financial resources would have been the settlement of Andre Bikey’s contract.

It also appears that Charlton made a fresh bid for Wolves’ winger, James Henry, on the last day of the window.

So, though already over budget, it seems the Addicks are still willing to bring players in, if they are on their priority list.

It was disclosed in one of the Sunday papers that Wolves made a deadline day bid for Blackburn winger, Ben Marshall.

Marshall has featured in every Blackburn game this season.

Brighton made a £1.5million for Marshall in July, so it will cost a hefty fee to land the soon-to-be 24-year-old.

Though Wolves failed to get the deal over the line on Tuesday, they are expected to try again when the loan window opens on Wednesday.

If Kenny Jackett gets his man, it would put a question mark over Henry’s place in the Wolves side. Would Jackett be able to fit both him and Marshall in the same team, would he need to recoup some of his outlay on Marshall by moving Henry on?

If he does, could The Valley be Henry’s destination?
