Corinthian’s dream of getting to Wembley continues but in dramatic fashion as a winner in added on time won the game & now they have a two legged semi-final against Hebburn Town.
The game started with both teams on the attack and in the fourth minute Danny Webb saw his snapshot go just wide, then three minutes later a ball into the Corinthian area was flicked on for James Towell who saw his cross shot go out for a goal kick.
The game then saw a flurry of action as in the space of four minutes three goals were scored. In the eight minute a ball into the area saw Jack Billings race onto it before rounding James Hero and slotting into the empty net.
However two minutes later Leighton equalised, a free kick into the area found Webb and from 6 yards he shot past Aiden Prall. Two minutes later and Corinthian were in front again when a free kick into the area was deflected into the path of Luke Tanner and he shot home from eight yards.
Following the flurry both sides continued to push forward and create half chances but they either wasted them or the keepers saved them.
In the 20th minute Emanual Oloyede shot over the bar moments later Towell headed over the bar.
In the 32nd minute Alan Osbourne saw his shot from 25 yards parried away by Prall. Prall had to be alert again in first half added on time making a double save from Louis Coulter then Archie McLelland.
The second half was only two minutes old when Leighton equalised again, Coulter ran into the area shrugging off a couple of defenders and from the by-line his shot was pushed away by Prall but straight to Towell who stabbed home from three yards.
In the 56th minute Jack Mahoney received the ball 20 yards out and his shot went just past the post. Five minutes later Chris Kinnear tried his luck from 20 yards forcing Hero to push it away but in the very next minute Prall came to the rescue when he blocked Coulter’s effort.
Leighton took the lead for the first time in the game midway though the second half. Webb crossed for Ashton Campbell whose powerful header beat Prall.
Corinthian were not done, however, and equalised with 15 minutes remaining when Jack Bath headed in a Housego freekick.
The game looked to be heading to extra time but Corinthian had clearly not read the script and won the game in added on time.
Oleyede controlled the ball inside the area and shot home from 6 yards to send the home supporters into delirium.
The game went on for five more minutes with Corinthian defending for their lives but try as they might Leighton could not force an equaliser. For Corinthian they now are just two games away from an appearance at Wembley.
