Corinthian played their first ever Isthmian Home League match and came away with a point which keeps their unbeaten start to season going whilst Ashford kept their unbeaten start to the League.
The game could have gone on for another 90 minutes & both sides would have struggled to score.
The game started with Corinthian on the front foot & in the 9th minute a Oscar Housego corner to the back post saw Ryan Sawyer head just over the bar then 8 minutes later Ashford finally joined the party when Ossai Tariq on the right crossed into the area where Tom Fagg was & his header was palmed away by Aiden Prall.
Another half chance came in the 24th minute when Housego latched onto a loose ball & from 20 yards saw his shot go wide of the post. In the 29th minute it was Ashford’s turn when Mamadon Diallo received the ball 30 yards out & his shot went over the bar.
In the last seconds of the half Tariq saw his cross into the six yard area headed over the bar. The half time whistle went & for both team’s it would be could do better.
The second half continued like the first with both sides having half chances but not scoring. In the 55th minute Louie Clarke was put through on the right & he saw McCarthy off his line so decided to lob him but it went over the bar. A minute later & the bar saved Corinthian when Bradley Simms low cross eventually came to Tom Fagg & his shot came back of the bar only a few inches from scoring.
In the 60th minute Tariq’s free kick into the area saw Luke Leppard’s flicked header go just past the post. In the 62nd minute a glorious chance arrived when Clarke on the left side of the area was found but as he beat the defender his shot went wide.
Another half chance came in the 71st minute when Housego latched onto a long ball & he tried his luck by chipping Prall from 18 yards but it went over the bar. Ashford had the last two half chances of the game when firstly in the 78th minute when a free kick into the area saw Fagg rise but send his header wide & then in the 84th minute a corner into the area saw Jack Steventon’s header saved by Prall.
The final whistle went & both teams would have been happy with the score but probably frustrated they didn’t win.
