Coquelin loan to be extended?
Coquelin loan to be extended?

The emergency loan window will close on Thursday until early February, though unattached players can still be signed.

Clubs will need to ensure that they are happy with their squads, both in terms of quality and quantity, as they head towards the busy Christmas schedule.

The Addicks are still short in the striking department and their options are very limited when Igor Vetokele is absent.

Bob Peeters currently has problems in midfield as well. Frederic Bulot was on the bench against Millwall, but was not 100% fit. Franck Moussa is currently sidelined and he has been joined in the treatment room by Yoni Buyens.

Buyens suffered a hamstring problem in the first half of the Millwall game. This is what Peeters had to say about Buyens’ injury:

“Yoni kicked a long ball and felt something in his hamstring. He signalled to me to tell me he couldn’t carry on so we brought on Callum Harriot.”

Hamstring injuries generally keep players out for 10-21 days. Arsenal loanee, Francis Coquelin, can slot into Buyens’ position but his initial loan period ends after Saturday’s game against Ipswich.

The Charlton hierarchy will be giving some thought to extending Coquelin’s loan until January.

The Addicks may also consider bringing Crystal Palace’s Stuart O’Keefe in to beef up the midfield.

Stephen Henderson was injured in training and it remains unclear how long the Irish stopper will be out for. Peeters was pleased with Nick Pope’s contribution on Saturday and had this to say about the keeping situation:

“I was happy with Nick Pope, Stephen Henderson’s shoulder was not right, so he told me on Friday that he couldn’t play after training.”

With just a few days left to bring loanees in, there will be some serious discussions going on at The Valley this week.
