Mike Conway and his co-drivers, John Martin and Roman Rusinov, will start on the front row of the LMP2 class for tomorrow’s 90th edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours.
Driving the No. 26 Oreca Nissan for G-Drive Racing, Conway, from Sevenoaks, dominated his extremely wet first session and was holding pole position going into the third and final session. However with drier conditions and running in race spec, team-mate Rusinov wasn’t quite able to hold on.
Conway will be making his debut at the prestigious event this weekend and will also be experiencing his first 24 hour race. He will be looking to continue his successes he just had driving in the IndyCar Series at Detroit a few weeks ago, where he achieved two podiums finishes including a win and also a pole.
Commenting on his first ever Le Mans qualifying, Conway said “We had a great run yesterday. Once you get to know the track, it’s a lot of fun to drive. Getting P2 on old tyres was fantastic, but it’s going to be a tough long race and anything can happen. Being at Le Mans though and experiencing my first 24 hour race is very special, so I’m looking forward to tomorrow and hoping we have a good race.”
The 24 Hour endurance race will begin on Saturday 22nd June at 3pm with live television coverage on EuroSport, live Le Mans official web-TV (www.lemans-tv.com) and commentary via Radio Le Mans (www.radiolemans.com).
