Sevenoaks racer Mike Conway made his return to the European racing scene last weekend at Silverstone.
The 29-year-old made his debut in the first round of the World Endurance Championship qualifying third in class and ninth overall, before finishing his first race seventh in class and 13th overall.
It was an interesting welcome back to the UK for Conway who has been racing in the US IndyCar Series in the last few seasons, with a mixture of sunshine and rain during the six hour race.
He will be driving for team Delta-ADR in the 2013 WEC Series sharing the driving with Roman Rusinov and John Martin throughout the season.
In the run up to his first race at Silverstone for a few years Conway set the fastest lap in free practice to show that no matter what car he runs in, he has raw pace and natural talent to produce the goods.
They qualified third on the grid but were pushed back to fifth place for the start, the race started without incident but that soon changed during the race, and when Mike took over the car he found himself down in 13th place in hour four of the race.
This was how they would finish the race in 13th place overall and 7th in the LMP2 class, overall a solid start to the 2013 season and his World Endurance racing debut.
Giving his reaction after the race, Mike said: “I definitely learnt a lot over this weekend in terms of the car, tyres, team work and traffic! The car had great pace all weekend and we got off to a great start but a few mistakes tumbled us down the order.
“The incidents involving my team mates lost us a few places but well done to the team for getting the car repaired and back out on the track so quickly. I’m happy to have achieved fastest lap but I really wanted to win, as did all the team, but we must take away the positives and it’s clear to see how much potential we have going in to the rest of the year.”
The World Endurance Series now moves to Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium over the weekend of the 3rd and 4th May.
