Consistency needed for Addicks
Consistency needed for Addicks
October was an indifferent month for the Addicks. The exilaration of a win over Barnsley at The Valley, was tempered by the two poor performances that have followed.

Charlton struggled to find a way past Oxford’s blanket defence, and they drew a blank at Rochdale on Saturday.

But earlier in the month they recorded a club record 8-0 win at Stevenage, and lost an eight goal feast 5-3 at Scunthorpe. Lee Boeyer’s side lack consistency.

Saturday’s reverse at Rochdale saw them slip to thirteenth in the table, albeit only five points off the play-off zone with a game in hand.

November opens with Doncaster visiting The Valley on Saturday‎, followed by a trip to Walsall three days later.

The game at Fratton Park in the middle of the month will almost certainly be called of due to international call ups.

The Addicks will entertain Bristol Rovers, before closing the month with a first ever visit to Burton’s Pirelli Stadium.

Sandwiched in the middle of the four league fixtures will be two or three cup games. Bowyer will take his side to Mansfield for an FA Cup tie‎ after the Walsall game, and his team will complete their Checkatrade Trophy first round fixtures when Swansea’s Under-21s visit The Valley.

If the Mansfield game goes to a replay, that will also be staged between the Walsall and Bristol Rovers games.

The Walsall game‎ is Charlton’s game in hand, and though the Portsmouth game looks certain to be called off, the table at the end of the month will give a more accurate picture of how the Addicks are faring.

Bowyer will be seeking consistency, and will task his team with securing twelve points during the month to get their promotion push back on track.
