On Saturday, Welling United visit Concord Rangers in the Vanarama National League South.
They come into the game on the back of a home draw with Slough Town. Recording a clean sheet was a positive after their defeat at Dartford seven days earlier and now they will look to use that as a starting block for a run to keep them in the top half of the table.
However, their task looks a little more challenging than it did a couple of weeks ago. Concord have broken their poor run in which they claimed one point from ten league games, plus getting knocked out of the cup by Berkhamsted. They have now won three on the spin to ease their way out of the bottom four.
At home they have won three, drawn two and lost four, their victories coming against Taunton Town, Chippenham Town, and Tonbridge Angels.
Last season’s corresponding game was the final match of the season, and Welling’s first without the threat of relegation, having claimed the win they needed two days earlier. They started well and deserved their lead through a goal by Chi Ezennolim.
Former Wing, Ryan Blackman levelled with twelve minutes remaining, and it looked as if the game was going to finish level. Concord’s Danny Green had other ideas, though, and scored a winner for the hosts deep into added time.
As well as Blackman, another former Welling midfielder, D’sean Theobalds, is expected to feature for the Beachboys.
