Rampant Welling United enjoyed a fine Bank Holiday afternoon at Concord Rangers.

Before kick off, Concord were second in the Vanarama National League South and were yet to concede at the Aspect Arena but they were no match from an outstanding Welling team.

Time and again Welling opened up the Concord defence like a can of beans whilst at the back, Anthony Acheampong and Thierry Audel were imperious.

They were handicapped by the loss of inspirational John Paul Kissock after just seven minutes but David Ijaha replaced him and won almost every ball in midfield for the remainder of the afternoon.

After fifteen minutes, Welling went ahead and never looked back. A wonderful free-flowing movement ended with Danny Mills’ unselfish pass setting up Brendan Kiernan to finish.

Gavin McCallum fired just wide after Mills and Kiernan had their shots blocked then another excellent passing movement was halted for offside against Bradley Goldberg before Kiernan netted.

However, they did extend their lead in first half injury time. Again Welling passed through the Concord midfield before Kiernan squared to Jack Jebb. Given time and space on the edge of the area, he sent a pin-point shot into the bottom corner.

Goldberg made it three eight minutes after the break when spinning onto a Kiernan pass and firing just inside the far post.

Shell shocked Concord were undone again six minutes later when another excellent move ended with McCallum going clear. Although Sam Beasant saved the initial effort, he was powerless as McCallum followed up to net the rebound.

Four became five from a Jebb corner that was met by Audel to volley home at the near post for his fourth goal of the season.

Nathaniel Pinney was introduced for his Welling United debut and McCallum was soon testing Beasant again with a shot that he was able to keep out.

Danny Green finally registered a shot on target for Concord but Dan Wilks preserved his clean sheet by tipping the free kick over. Sam Blackman fired over when the corner was half cleared but it was Welling who hade the final goal attempt.

Once more it was McCallum who chanced his arm but this time Beasant wasn’t unduly troubled.
