Coles & Stevens help Spitfires to win

Match winning efforts from Matt Coles and Darren Stevens helped the Kent Spitfires to a four wicket win over Yorkshire Carnegie in the CB40 on Sunday.

Coles returned career best one day figures of 6 for 32 in his eight overs, whilst Stevens hit 59 off just 51 balls as the Spitfires won with four balls to spare at Headingley.

The game started so well for Kent having lost the toss and put into bowl first by reducing the home side to 22 for 4 with Coles accounting for three of those wickets and in the end they restricted Yorkshire to 175 for 9 in their 40 overs.

Sam Billings and Rob Key got the Spitfires off to a great start in their run chase as they put on a fifty run opening stand with Billings (26), Key (40) and Alex Blake (14) all helping the score move along nicely.

It was the partnership between Stevens and Brendan Nash (24) that saw Kent close to victory, although both fell within touching distance of the target of 176 with Geraint Jones and James Tredwell at the crease when the former hit the winning run.

Yorkshire won the toss and elected to bat.
