New Gillingham Head Coach Stephen Clemence is preparing for his first league game at Priestfield this weekend and midfielder Ethan Coleman has been telling us just what the feeling is in the camp ahead of Clemence’s “debut” in the dugout at a home League game…
“It is important,” Coleman admitted to KSN this week. “We won at Hereford but in the League, this could be the Gaffer’s first win if we do it and it’s important – we all really want to win the game and that’s what we’ll try to do.”
“The dressing room really has taken to him and Robbie (Stockdale) – he is getting on with everyone so far and is really friendly. Managers I think like to ease themselves in, so no one has had a tongue lashing yet,” Coleman admitted.
“We know we have got to make Priestfield a fortress again as we did last year and that is one hundred percent what we want to achieve.”
“We want to be higher up the table – we know that as a team – we are underachieving now I would say, but we can only improve with the new Gaffer coming in and that is what we intend to do.”
“We all know that it will take time to implement the new ideas, style of play, as it always does when a new manager comes in and I think that is what we are doing now.”
“We have had a whole week, and we will look to show that on Saturday and see what we can do.”
“We have had more time on the grass with the Gaffer so that he can implement his ideas to us, and then we can carry it out in a game situation and that is hopefully what we can do on a weekend.”
“Both the Gaffer and Robbie (Stockdale) have been coaches in the past and it does help to get information from both of them about tactics.”
“The fans have been brilliant so far this season, both home and away, and they are such a massive boost to all of us.”
“So, if they can get behind us again on Saturday, it will really does help. We want to get results straight away; it all comes into one really, but we will try our best and see what we can do!”
