The Addicks have two tough away games in three days coming up. First up is the trek to rejuvenated Blackpool on Saturday, followed by a trip to the south coast to face table-topping Portsmouth next Tuesday.
Lee Bowyer has often commented that his team do not perform as well in midweek games. They seem to struggle to recover from the intensity
of a weekend game.
It is unlikely that Bowyer will field the same team in both games, he will want to freshen his side up a little for the game at Fratton Park.
The oroblem he has is in which game does he field his strongest team? Blackpool is probably the more winnable of the two games, so should he field his strongest team at Bloomfield Road, or play his best XI in the tougher game at Fratton Park?
Bowyer may feel Patrick Bauer is not yet ready to play two games in quick succession, and Jamie Ward has said that he can not play for 90 minutes on a Saturday, then again three days later.
If Bauer does not start both games, Bowyer will probably play Naby Sarr alongside Jason Pearce, switch Chris Solly to left-back, and bring Anfernee Dijksteel in on the right.
He may also consider playing Dijksteel in the middle and leaving Solly in his natural position.
Warranted he is fit, Tariqe Fosu is the obvious alternative to Ward.
Up front, Lyle Taylor and Karlan Grant look certain to start both games.
The length of the journey to Blackpool is another factor Bowyer willl have to consider.
It willl be fascinating to see how he decides to play it.
