Christmas Present for Kings
Christmas Present for Kings

As Christmas approaches, Kent Kings have given a present to their fans in the form of the signing of Gravesend based Danno Verge.Danno Verge Action - Bullet Images

The 18 year old may already be familiar with some fans after gaining racing experience at the Scunthorpe Stags in the National League, Verge has also had plenty of experience of the Central Park track after riding for the ‘Possibles’ in the private meeting at the track in Murston and then turning out for Mildenhall, Devon and Scunthorpe as a visiting rider in the league. The driver has also appeared for a number of individual performances at Central Park including the Laurels last year before finishing seventh in the British under 19 Championship which was hosted by Kent in September.

The son of former Hackney Kestrels rider Steve Verge, Danno finished last season with an average of 4.25 points including bonuses and has always wanted to be able to continue his career in Kent, he originally trained under Andrew Silver at the Rye House School following his early run-outs on a 125cc machine at Eastbourne in 2012 and appeared as a regular for the Rye House Pocket Rockers in the Anglian Junior League throughout the year.

The young driver offers something not normally found in racers of his inexperience, he has been able to build a reputation of being reliable when it comes to picking up points whilst not needlessly losing potential points in a similar way to how so many of his young counterparts do.

The Kings’ team manager, Chris Hunt is delighted with Verge’s signing, saying “Danno’s enthusiasm to be part of his local team must have a beneficial effect”

Hunt is also impressed with how Danno has been performing so far in his young career “”There is currently a big rush to sign lower-end riders of the three point variety and in that category, Danno is something of a gem. He showed by recording a win and two seconds in his first four rides in the U-19s that he has moved ahead of a number of his peers – riders who are now going to be appearing in some of our league opponents’ line-ups.

“I am confident that he will prove to be a very wise addition to our seven for the 2015 campaign”. The Kings still need three more drivers, as well as their backup ‘number eight’ and are expected to announce who will fill these positions early in the new year as they prepare for the beginning of the season in March.”
