Hopefully, it will be third time lucky for Chippenham Town and Welling United as they attempt to play their outstanding Vanarama National League South fixture.
Originally, they should have met in Wiltshire back in November but that game was postponed due to Chippenham’s extended F.A. Cup run. Then the first rearranged date in January fell foul of a frozen playing surface.
On Saturday, the Bluebirds’ five game winning run was ended when they were held at home by Eastbourne Borough in a one-one draw.
They were behind at half time but Joe Parker levelled with nine minutes remaining to extend their unbeaten run to twelve games since losing at Dartford in early February. Their last home defeat was one week earlier at the hands of Braintree Town.
Included in that unbeaten run was a one-all draw at Park View Road. After a goal-less first half Alex Bray put Chippenham ahead and they held the lead until twelve minutes remained when Kodi Lyons-Foster restored parity with his first goal for Welling.
Lyons-Foster’s second goal for the Wings came on Saturday, the only goal in their match with Bath City. That gave Welling their first home win since New Year’s Day, and just their fifth on home soil this season.
When the two teams met at Hardenhuish Park last season, Welling recorded their only win of the campaign by a margin greater than one goal, being on the right side of a three-one scoreline.
Daniel Carr put Welling ahead ten minutes before the break but Adam Mann levelled two minutes into stoppage time. Dipo Akinyemi put Welling back in front eight minutes after the break and Che Krabbendam added a third four minutes later.
Warren Feeney will be monitoring the fitness of goalkeeper Myles Roberts, Sadik Balarabe and Daniel Nkrumah before deciding whether to change a winning side.
