Having started the season with a victory and a defeat, Welling travel to Wiltshire on Saturday to visit Chippenham Town.
Although they have recorded three points, it could easily have been six. Following their victory against Dulwich Hamlet on Saturday they went down 1-0 at Eastbourne Borough but they must still be wondering how they came home empty handed.
After going behind to Borough’s one clear cut chance of the match, Welling hit the post, hit the bar and created lots of havoc in the Eastbourne penalty area but were unable to find a way past a brave rear-guard action.
That has gone now, and Welling are back on the road on Saturday looking for their first away win under Steve King.
Hosts, Chippenham, are also on three points having recorded a home win and suffered an away defeat. On the opening day of the season at Hemel Hempstead, they conceded an early goal but a quick brace from Karnell Chambers gave them the lead.
Last season, Welling visited on the final day, and with all play-off hopes gone they succumbed to a meek one-nil defeat. Andy Sandell scored the only goal in the eighteenth minute. Even though Jon Beeden was dismissed for kicking out at Callum Driver, Welling never really looked like getting back into the game.
During the summer, Chippenham have strengthened their squad however Welling have had a total over-haul and will be looking for a different outcome this time around.
