Although Welling’s win-less run continued they stopped the run of defeats with a good point at Chippenham Town.
However, the concern about goal scoring continued as it was their fourth consecutive league game in which their opposition recorded a clean sheet.
Wings’ manager Mark Goldberg moved to address the problem by bringing in Korrey Henry on a one month loan from Bromley and the striker had a busy Welling debut.
Adam Coombes didn’t know too much about the first opportunity for Welling when Will Puddy made a mess of Joe Anderson’s diagonal cross and it hit a surprised Coombes and floated wide.
After that, the hosts had the better of the first half. Rhys Tyler shot over before Dan Wilks made a good save from Karnell Chambers.
Chris Zebroski had a shot deflected over before meeting a cross from Jay Foulston that he couldn’t keep down. Finally, he did register an effort on target but Wilks made a good stop.
George Rigg shot straight at Wilks after the Welling defence had defended well as Chippenham continued to probe before Luke Haines fired over at the end of another goalmouth scramble.
Having repelled all that had been thrown at them thus far, Welling began to create problems at the other end and Henry appeared to have a shout for a penalty when taken out inside the area.
He then cut in but scuffed his shot wide before an Anthony Cook free kick picked out Rob Swaine but his header went straight at Puddy.
Henry had a shot saved by Puddy before Zebroski shot into the side netting at the other end.
Chambers had the last opportunity of the first half but fired over after Tom Whelan had created the opening.
Jay Rich-Baghuelou had a header saved by Puddy immediately after the break before Sanchez Ming picked out Coombes but he could not get any power in his header and Puddy saved.
Whelan fired just wide for Chippenham before Chambers got in behind but hit the crossbar with his shot.
Ming created another opening for Henry but he shot over before Will Richards made a great tackle to thwart him.
Aaron Cosgrave was introduced and made an immediate impact and after having one shot blocked, his next one from twenty yards came back off the post.
There was an alarm for Welling deep into injury time when Chippenham had a strike disallowed for offside but Welling held out for a good point.
