Bromley’s unbeaten run under new manager Andy Woodman continued with an impressive away win at play off chasing Chesterfield on Saturday lunchtime with a goal in either half from Michael Cheek and Joe Kizzi.
Woodman made three changes from the team that beat Woking in midweek with Liam Trotter and Taylor Maloney missing out while Courtney Duffus dropped to the bench, coming in was debutant Alex Mitchell on loan from Millwall, Liam Vincent and Billy Bingham who returned from injury.
Bromley made a bright start to the game with Kizzi heading wide from a Jude Arthurs free kick and they pressed Chesterfield from set pieces with Arthurs and Liam Vincent sending in some great deliveries.
The hosts also created chances though with Maguire having a shot cleared off the line by Kizzi and Whittle firing over from the rebound.
After the game had settled down it was Bromley who made the vital beak through on 19 minutes when Bingham won a challenge in midfield and directed the ball into the path of Cheek who broke clear of the home defence before coolly beating Smith from the edge of the box for 1-0.
Chesterfield then had a strong spell from there, Clarke forced a great save from Mark Cousins after creating space on the edge of the area and Maguire had a shot blocked by Mitchell.
The Ravens defence held strong as The Spireites continued to press, Kerr having a header tipped away by Cousins on to the far post and Maguire heading wide from a Clarke corner.
The home side also had a shout for a penalty turned down when Charlie Fox appeared to impede Carline, but the referee was uninterested in the appeals.
Clarke was then on hand to set up Mitchell, but he was also off target and then Bromley’s debutant Alex Mitchell headed a Yarney cross to safety for another Chesterfield corner.
The second half saw Bromley start on the front foot with a series of corners, but things then settled down and Chesterfield began to look dangerous again.
Woodman made two changes just before the hour introducing James Alabi and Courtney Duffus, while the home side switched to two up front.
Sub Tyson fired over with his first chance for The Spireites and Maguire had a header saved from a corner.
Chesterfield eventually pulled level on 74 minutes when following a throw on, Maguire received a long ball on the edge of the area and took a touch before driving the ball into the corner off the net past Chris Bush on the line to make it 1-1.
Tyson headed a Carline cross wide soon after before Frankie Raymond came on into the midfield for Bromley and they rallied again from there.
With the game opening up and possession frequently turning over, it was The Ravens who went back in front on 84 minutes, when Raymond sent in a superb ball from deep to the far post and Kizzi ghosted in to head home with a brave diving effort and make it 2-1.
Chesterfield responded again to falling behind with Carline having another penalty appeal turned down and they pumped balls into the box, but The Ravens got behind the ball though and dug in for the final few minutes.
The home side had fifteen corners in the match that were all well defended by Woodman’s resilient side and their dogged determination saw The Ravens hold on for all three points to keep them in the hunt for the post season games.
The win takes Bromley level on points with Chesterfield, who are in the last place of the play off zone, and The Ravens now prepare for another tough trip next Saturday as they travel to sixth placed Halifax Town.
