If top teams win when they dont play well then Bromley are sure to feature at the top end of the National League, for the remainder of the season, based on this showing.
Trailing to a Michael Fondop-Talom first half goal, Bromley shocked their hosts with two goals in the final 12 minutes from Ben Williamson and a Will Evans own goal to ensure the Ravens returned to Kent with all three points.
Neil Smith welcomed Joe Kizzi back to his starting line-up following the recall of Rarmarni Edmonds-Green to parent club Huddersfield but saw his Bromley side fall behind inside the first quarter of the game.
A cross into the penalty area saw Scott Boden flick through and Fondop-Talom reacted quickest to poke beyond a late-reacting Ryan Huddart.
The goal lead seemed to give the struggling Spireites some confidence and in truth they were the better of the two teams in the remainder of the first half that was admitedly very low on quality.
Bromley’s best opportunity fell to Michael Cheek who headed a Sam Wood cross wide and Haydn Hollis headed a free kick straight at Huddart for the home side. Despite bossing possession, however, the Spireites could not add to their goal lead.
Neil Smith reacted to Bromley’s sub-par first half with an early change in the second half, new signing Dave Winfield replacing Wood as Bromley switched to a 3-5-2.
Despite the change Bromley continued to struggle in the final third, Michael Cheek volleyed a Kizzi lay off over the crossbar and that threatened to be as good as it would get for the Ravens.
Laurence Maguire shot wide after being set up by Fondop-Talom but Chesterfield appeared to have Bromley at arms length.
The equaliser when it came was against the run of play, Luke Coulson’s free kick was headed home by Williamson giving Luke Coddington no chance in the Spireites goal.
Almost immediately after the equaliser it looked as if Gevaro Nepocuemo had won the Spireites a penalty when he skipped past Dave Winfield and fell in the penalty area but referee Steven Copeland adjudged there to be no contact.
Bromley took full advantage of the let-off and promptly took the lead with their next opportunity, Coulson’s right wing cross nodded into his own net by Chesterfield captain Will Evans.
Shell-shocked by the turn-around in their fortunes Chesterfield failed to threaten again as Bromley closed out the game to get the win and continue their chase of league leaders Barrow.
