Welling United are back on the road having had a week to recover from their home defeat at the hands of third placed Alfreton Town.
Any knocks picked up in that game have had time to heal and those recovering from longer term injury should be nearer to full fitness. Manager Jamie Day will be hoping that Lee Clarke will be back in contention for a starting place so that only Loick Pires will remain sidelined.
Day will have a different problem in deciding who will start in the game at Chester. Harry Cornick, who was signed on a one month loan on the day before the game last Saturday, came on as a second half substitute and impressed immediately.
There may still be further enhancements to the squad before the transfer window closes prior to the game at the Deva Stadium should the right player become available.
Although, only one point above the relegation zone, Chester have appointed experience Conference Premier manager Steve Burr as manager and last weekend’s loss at Forest Green Rovers ended a run of five matches undefeated. Matty Taylor has been recruited on loan from the Gloucestershire team for the rest of the season and is expected to make his debut against the Wings.
This will be the first meeting between the two teams this term, despite being well into the second half of the season, Chester being the last club Welling are yet to play. It will be Welling’s second venture to Wales, though, as the ground is just across the border although the car park and offices are in England.
Travelling Welling supporters may see the second brother of a Manchester United player against the Wings on Saturday. Ashley Young’s brother Lewis was in the Aldershot team who beat Welling in December and Wayne Rooney’s brother John plays up front for Chester.
