Cheshunt v Cray Wanderers preview

Cray begin the final month of the season with the first to two crunch games against fellow playoff contenders in the next week as the Wands travel to Hertfordshire to face sixth placed Cheshunt.

Cheshunt

Cray in the middle of a good run of form since the beginning of March had Easter Monday off due to the bad weather as the game with Thurrock was postponed. This could have helped any lingering injury doubts from Saturday’s game against Witham Town and hopefully Cray will come into the game in full strength.

The club managed to sign right back, Elliott Cox to help ease the departure of Ade Osifuwa which frees Aryan Tajbakhsh who filled in admirably against Witham to return to the midfield area. Cray come into the game with one defeat in the last seven games and are playing well at a key time of the season with standout performances from the likes of Leigh Bremner, Jay Leader, Karl Dent, Michael Frieter, Lea Dawson and Sean Roberts to name but a few.

Saturday’s game will be a tricky one and Paul Wickenden’s Cheshunt have been around the playoff places for most of the season. They are currently tied on 73 points with AFC Hornchurch and Brightlingsea Regent who also meet on Saturday at Hornchurch, seven points behind Cray in 4th place. They have at their disposal the leading scorer in the Ryman North, Jason Hallett who has scored an impressive 33 goals this season.

Cray though produced one of their most complete perfomances of the season back on the 21st November as goals from Ben Hunt and Michael Frieter gave the Wands a 2-0 win that afternoon at Hayes Lane.

Both teams had a free Monday with postponements and should come into the game fresh and a lively encounter is promised. Following the trip to Cheshunt, Cray face Thurrock in the rearranged game at Ship Lane on Tuesday, 5th April.
