A Charlton team that included David Button, Danny Green, Ricardo Fuller, Jordan Cook, Salim Kerkar and Dale Stephens beat Chelsea in a behind-closed-doors game at Cobham.
Danny Green opened the scoring before the break with Fuller doubling the advantage in the second period. Brought down in the box, Fuller got up to take the penalty himself. Though Ross Turnbull turned the spot-kick onto the post, Fuller reacted quickest to tuck away the rebound.
Chelsea brought the game back to 2-2 before Michael Smith sealed a 3-2 win late on.
Leon Clarke, who has had a miserable time at The Valley since arriving at the club in January, has joined Scunthorpe on a three month emergency loan. Both Clarke and Charlton will be hoping he does enough to earn a permanent deal in January. The freeing up of Clarke’s salary will fund the wages of Dany N’Guessan if the Addicks can agree a deal with neighbours Millwall.
Paul Mortimer has decided to stand down from his role as manager of the Charlton Ladies team. The Addicks will name Mortimer’s replacement in due course.
