Dreams of winning the league for the Invicta Dynamos are over for another season after they lost to Chelmsford Chieftains on Sunday night.Danny Hammond7

Kevin Parrish’s side will have to settle for second in the NIHL South league at best with the Essex side having secured the league title to go with the SouthEast Trophy they have already won.

It was the home side that took the early advantage with Gary Clarke scoring the opening goal of the game in the 7th minute, but with just eighteen seconds left on the clock in the opening period, Ryan Giles fired the puck home to take the two sides in level at the break.

After a scoreless second period, it looked like the Dynamos were going to push the league leaders all the way, but they suffered the cruelest of fates as they conceded twice in the final four minutes of the game.

Grant Bartlett was to fire the home side in front once again in the 57th minute and Clarke wrapped up the victory and the league title with his second of the game with just over ninety seconds left to play.

The loss will be a bitter blow to the Dynamos who had real ambitions to win the league this season, but with two league games left to play and the play-offs to look forward to, Parrish’s side will have to pick themselves up quickly for what could be an exciting few weeks ahead.

Next weekend the Dynamos head to third place Wightlink Raiders on Saturday night, before returning to Gillingham to face Bracknell Hornets in the their final league fixture of the season on Sunday evening with face off at 5:15pm.
