Saturday night brought a famous cup victory for the Invicta Dynamos in a rink they previously have struggled in.

The Dynamos were able to call on a full roster whist the Chieftains were missing star forward Juraj Huska who was replaced by Andrius Kaminskas.

Dynamos debutant Mason Webster  showed what muscle he will bring to the team by hitting Brandon Ayliffe into the boards early on.

It was however the Chieftains who registered the first opportunity, Damien King getting down low to save with forwards scrambling around the netminders net on 05:43.

At the other end,  Josh Condren went on a dart forward beating one marker and then shooting over the bar. A couple of minutes later Condren was the first man in the penalty box, a delay of game call for putting the puck out of play.

A cheap shot by Cameron Bartlett on 10 minutes at Damien King resulted in the new Dynamos captain Callum Fowler to react.

As the two tussled Billy Phillips tried to join in the fight but was held back well by the alert Ondrei Zosiak. With the first period drawing to a close King had to keep out Turner and Sylvester to keep the sides level at the interval.

The second period started with a multitude of penalties, Matt Turner, Billy Phillips and Mason Webster all serving penalties early-on with Dynamos a man better off for a whole minute but we’re unable to take advantage.

Another penalty, this time on Charlie Phillips gave the Dynamos another man advantage. Ashley Jackson, who skated hard all game was unlucky not to score with the Mo’s piling on the pressure.

After the powerplay, Danny Hammond tested Damien King with the turn of play then giving Steve Osman a chance to Nicky Lewis by Ben Clements done well to rescue the puck.

Matt Turner’s interference on Elliott Dewey gave the Dynamos another powerplay and chances for Tommy Ralph, Adam Rehak and Arran Strawson were all saved.

On 39:44 Billy Phillips wrestled for the puck with Conor Redmond and with his attentions on the Irish skater and not the game the puck flew across goal, Bailey Wootton nipping the puck onto Cameron Bartlett and into the net….the away side grabbing a one nil lead at the end of the second period.

The third period started and ended with bangs in different ways. A good stop by King to deny Staples and Hammond was rewarded by Dynamos doubling their lead on 44.23.  Fowler redirecting a Webster shot towards the net to leave Clements no chance.

A clash between Billy Phillips and the defenceless Josh Condren started an ugly ten minutes of brawling amoungst the teams.

In truly shocking scenes, Billy Phillips refused to leave the ice and charged the Mos bench. BT Williams and Cameron Bartlett of the Chieftains also instigated scraps with Dewey and Condren with sticks and helmets sprawled across the ice.

The resulting penalties:

Invicta Dynamos
Mason Webster 2+2+game for roughing. Josh Condren 2+game for roughing.
Mos bench 2 for roughing.

Chelmsford Chieftains
B. Phillips 2+2+10+match.
C. Phillips match.
Williams 2+2+game.
All penalties for roughing.

The Dynamos defended out the remaining 8 minutes to secure a 2-0 victory against their bitter rivals.

For his part in the shutout, Damien King was awarded the Dynamos man of the match award.  For the home team Alex Staples took the honours.
